Logic grid puzzles (Day 4 at home)

This activity is here as an alternative to the Hide it! game. It is for 1st graders and older.

Task:

Supplies: a sheet of paper and a pencil to draw the grid.

Backstory: Solve this logic puzzle to find out the name, the age and the favorite superhero of each kid.

Remember, as with all grid-based logic puzzles, no option in any category will ever be used more than once.
Clues:
1. Bryan likes Spiderman.
2. Tony doesn't like Superman.
3. The youngest kid likes Spiderman.
4. The kid who likes Superman is 8.

How it went:

I had to help my 7-year old get started: I showed her to put a 1 where she knew the favorite superhero of a kid and a 0 where she knew someone was definitely NOT the favorite superhero of a kid. From the first clue, she could put a 1 in the Bryan row and Spiderman column (there was a little bit of confusion about reading the chart). I also explained that she also knew that Spiderman was NOT the favorite superhero of Sean or Tony.

Task 2:

Backstory: Horse, Cow, Dog, and Cat went to the theater and sat in a row of four seats (numbered 1 through 4).
Clues:
1. Cow and Cat took the aisle seats.
2. Dog's seat number and Cow's seat number were bigger than Horse's seat number.

This problem in Task 2 was taken from Math Circles for Elementary School.

How it went:

Here, Bel was frustrated because she did not what she was looking for and how to construct the grid. After talking with her about what the problem asked for, she was ok.

Task 3:

Supplies: a sheet of paper and a pencil to draw the grid.

Backstory: The Shoe Shack has made several top-dollar sales today. Using only the clues below, match each customer to their foot size, shoe brand and final purchase price.

Remember, as with all grid-based logic puzzles, no option in any category will ever be used more than once.
Clues:
1. The Graffetz footwear was 2 sizes smaller than Bethany's pair.
2. Vanessa's pair was 1 size larger than Francine's pair.
3. The size 7 set was by Tinghill.
4. The size 5 set was by Abbott Hill.

How it went:

Bel did not attempt this one. I think she was bored.
